About Allison Boats

After years building up ALLISON low loaders and trailers as well as ALLISON Engineering Col sold out to retire, but that didn't last long. His early teenage years came flooding back reminding Col of when he and best mate Norm Hale built their boat. Over the many years as a boat owner with various brands Col had some good ideas about a boat that he thought could be better than what was on the market at the time.

ALLISON Boats will be celebrating their twentieth anniversary on 16 October 2006. The company was started by Col Allison in a small industrial shed at Horizon Shores marina at Woongoolba between Brisbane and the Gold Coast on 16 October 1986. Where as most new boat building companies start off and build a small boat then move onto larger models, ALLISON Boats started by building a 32' Sports Cruiser. Although only twenty were sold it became a classic and to this day is treasured by its owners.

Because of Col's love of fishing and boating in general the next model to come on line was a 22' centre console that took the boating world by storm. It was a big beamy fishing boat with lots of free board and a mile of fishing room, not to say very stable at rest. But the most important piece of construction on this new model was the use of a fibreglass stringer grid as opposed to glass encapsulated wooden stringers (to this day this method is still used by a majority of boat building companies) along with reverse chines on the hull to give those early ALLISON models the stability at rest that is the hallmark of the early ALLISON Boats and all ALLISON models since.

Over the last twenty years ski boats, bow riders, cuddy cabins, walk around and even a little tri hull tiller steer model have been added to our range. Each year more ALLISON boats get sold than the year before. Why? Because ALLISON customers become our best advert. We don't tell prospective ALLISON owners how good our boats are, current ALLISON owners tell them for us at boat ramps around Australia.

Col's eldest son Bruce (sales & marketing) and his only daughter Susan (general manager), her husband Rolfe (foreman) and son Nathan (fitout) are now charged with taking this great boating company to the next level.
